Stock Photographs (Black Friday 2008)

After last year’s debacle, I decided not to do anything for Black Friday (still a stupid name) this year.  But through my daily perusal of Ben’s Bargains the other day I noticed an online 30% off Nike deal.  Every so often the deal comes up at only 20% and I end up moseying over and filling my cart up before deciding that I don’t really need all the clearance socks and lightweight Dri-FIT T-shirts I’ve added to my cart to get to that $125 threshold.  But because now it’s at least an additional $13.50 of savings, I decided to make a purchase this time.  And since it’s online, I don’t even have expected delivery dates, just stock photographs:

Nike Global Control 9″ Men’s Tennis Shorts
$45.00  $15.99
These look like something Federer would wear, so I’m in.

Nike Dri-FIT 9″ Men’s Tennis Shorts
$35.00  $13.99
I’ve got these in white and university (I think, if not that then something similar to that) blue already, and these are probably the most lightweight shorts I have.

Nike Air Max 90 Men’s Boot
$120.00  $58.79
My Air Goapath IIs are still in very good condition, but I really like this colorway and these look very stompable.  I wasn’t a fan of the AM90s until the One Time Only shoes came around, where I got screwed out of the Clerks Pack AM90 360s (won the employee raffle to buy it but ended up with the Originals AM90 360s instead…non-white cage=the goodness but I digress).

Nike Shox Cushioned No Show Socks (Large)
$8.00  $3.49
I remember when I first used my employee discount to get a couple of pairs of quickstrike AF1s and saw the promotion for three pairs of socks for $12.  I recalled sometime in one of the brainwashing sessions being told that many of the Nike socks available at Niketown or nike.com aren’t available at any other retailer.  So I got 3 pairs.  And now?  I had put the maximum 5 they would allow in my cart, but they ended up not having enough stock so I was only able to checkout with one.  And this is even though the no show socks are my least favorite of their sock offerings.

Nike Dri-FIT Tech Core Stripe Men’s Golf Polo
$50.00  $24.49
Left over in my cart from one of the previous ’shop and then abandon cart’ sessions.  the Tiger Woods polos are much nicer (except for the metal TW logo on the sleeve which I hate) and I probably should have looked at them, but I can’t seem to pull the trigger on any shirt over $30.

Nike Dri-FIT Practice Men’s Basketball Shorts
$30.00  $9.79
I’ve been wearing the same two pairs of shorts around the house for eight years now.  I remember a time when I thought these were premium shorts.

DualShock® Wireless Controller for PlayStation®3
$54.99  $29.99
A couple of months ago I was considering (and eventually passed up on) buying a refurbished SixAxis controller for $25, so $30 for a new DualShock seems right to me.  Rumble isn’t that important to me especially with its adverse effect on battery life for this generation of wireless controllers, but you can always use controllers, even though that thinking has resulted in me now owning five Xbox360 controllers.  Hopefully it doesn’t add too much heft as I rather liked the lightweight feel of the SixAxis.

Transformers[Widescreen Dubbed Subtitle AC3] - Blu-ray Disc
$39.99  $9.99
Another movie to add to my unwatched/sealed movie collection, but again, can’t complain about the price.  Someone who shall remain nameless (in case his wife reads this) commented on this: ‘you know the only reason to watch this, right?  Megan Fox!’  Can’t say I’ve seen anything with her in it before so I’ll withhold judgment myself.

I almost didn’t make that last purchase since I saw that Paramore had a new tour CD/DVD release this week and added it to the cart before realizing it was ~$10 cheaper at Amazon.  So after adding it to the cart and later removing it, $13 for one movie seemed like an unworthy purchase.  In the end, holiday spirit won out as I clicked on the confirm order button.

Why do I bring this up?  A couple of hours ago I saw Amazon had Animal Crossing for the Wii with Wii Speak for $40.  Kei had called me yesterday shortly after midnight asking me if I was interested in Wii Speak, which apparently was in stock at the Rolling Meadows Meijer.  I don’t see the appeal/functionality of a microphone not incorporated into a headset, but if I could I get it with the game for $10 less than what I paid for the game only, I’m down.  So I added it into my cart and then searched for Paramore’s The Final Riot!.  However 3 entries showed up and the two lower ones had a ‘This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer’ description.  So in the couple of minutes it took for me to confirm that I was not missing out on any limited-edition version, the Animal Crossing bundle went out of stock and then back to its full price.  And I’m not making TWO thirteen dollar online purchases today.

EDIT @ 7:15A.M.
So I just noticed that my Radio Shack order was cancelled yesterday, twelve hours after I placed it.  That’s just as well, as when I was crafting this entry and trying to find the exact name of the blue that I had the 2nd pair of shorts up above in, I came across a Golfsmith Thanksgiving sale, 25% off Tennis apparel and clearance shoes.  So with ~$35 already spent in my mind, I reallocated it to the following:

Nike Tennis Men’s Air Zoom Revive Wht/Blu/Gry
$120.00  $44.96  $33.72
These were the shoes I had wanted to get two years ago with the free employee outfitting (I forget what it’s really called in Nike corporate terminology) as I had bought some black on black 360s that were really going to be my work shoes.  Unfortunately the MSRP limit was $110 so I ended up getting the Air Max Breathe 3s, which only had Zoom Air in the forefoot and Max Air in the heel.  The Air Zoom Vomeros I got with my first employee outfitting had the full-length Zoom Air and were/are the most comfortable shoes for sports I’ve ever owned (360 air owns for chilling though), and converted me to a Zoom Air disciple.  The Breathe 3s I have are still quite serviceable even though they got irrevocably stained (ironically) the one time I wore them playing something other than tennis.  But like with controllers, having shoes in reserve is useful.  They only had them in 10 and 11.5 though, so if they don’t fit they will be most likely be donated (operative word) to Nik (I forget his shoe size).  Nar might be a 10 as well but he just picked up the Vapor Vs recently and those are ace.  One more thing: the blue here is similar to what I described as university blue above.  Regardless, Nike needs to reintroduce this and green/yellow into their tennis colorways.

Nike Tennis Global Control Polo
$65.00  $15.94  $11.96
Sometime this past spring/summer I think I came across this exact shirt during one of the aforementioned ‘20% off shop and abandon cart’ sessions I had with nike.com.  I believe Nar had IDed it as being a Federer shirt from one of the Grand Slams, and I was seriously considering it then at just under $30.  At $15?  I was thinking of ordering 2.  I’ve got two crossed out prices for this and the shoes above because that second price was how much I thought it would end up being since I clicked through their ad page to get to the search function and assumed that’s the only way to get the discounted prices to show (Dick’s Sporting Goods/The Sports Authority is like this).  When I went to checkout though I was surprised to see 2 of 3 items in it even cheaper.  The other item was a $20 pair of shorts which for some reason didn’t get the additional discount applied, so it had to be left behind.  Thinking about it some more though, if the two items I ended up buying didn’t get that 25% discount in addition to their clearance price then I most likely would have ended up buying the shorts as well.

Hopefully this doesn’t get cancelled.  Still debating whether or not to get a Westbrook jersey (after last night’s 40-point fantasy explosion) at 25% off from The Sports Authority.
